The function and setting characteristics of traffic signs.

In general, signs are set on the right side of the highway. For lane division and road indication signs such as overtaking lane, carriageway and emergency parking zone, when it is difficult to set them on the roadside, gantry support is usually used to install the sign board above the highway.

Signs near interchanges and service areas shall be set on the principle that traffic vehicles will not affect the driver's sight when they approach intersections or branches and confluence.

The sign setting can ensure that the driver has enough reaction time to make the necessary judgment for safe operation. Therefore, in order to make the logo content play its due role, the logo should be set in advance. Here, it needs to be clear that the larger the board size, the simpler the logo content, and the smaller the distance advance.

Roadside signs are guaranteed to have a clear distance of 25cm from the outer edge of the shoulder, and there is a clear distance of 2m between the lower edge of the sign board and the outer road surface of the emergency stop zone. Signs set above the highway ensure that the clear distance between the lower edge of the slab and the road surface is > 5m.

The front of the sign board faces the direction of coming vehicles, which is basically arranged at right angles to the direction of the highway, and the board face is slightly inclined inward. There are still different opinions on the inclination of roadside signs. In some countries' codes, only when the distance between the sign board and the edge of the shoulder is more than 9m, will the sign board be tilted inward, and when the distance between the sign board and the outer edge of the shoulder is less than 9m, in order to prevent the dazzling phenomenon caused by reflection, the sign board will be tilted outward by 3.

The problems that should be paid attention to in the construction of traffic signs

1. Column installation

Sign posts shall be made and installed according to the technical specifications and drawings.

When installing the column, it must be equipped with a crane, and the sign column should be as vertical as possible, and it is not allowed to tilt to one side of the roadway.

When installing, check the verticality of the column, measure it with a vertical line and a ruler, fix the vertical line with the vertical line, measure the distance of the column from the vertical line and its corresponding column length, measure it three times at each place, and calculate the verticality and take the average value, so that the verticality meets the requirements of the specification. Verticality can also be measured by theodolite. If the verticality does not meet the requirements, it is necessary to constantly adjust the verticality of the sign pole.

Two columns of double-column sign or portal sign shall be vertical and parallel to each other, with their top ends at the same height, and the connectors shall be symmetrically arranged.

The requirements of the clearance height from the lower edge of the sign plate to the road surface and the distance from the inner edge of the sign plate to the road edge should be considered when installing the column.

When installing, pay attention to protect the column, and there shall be no scratches, scratches and other injuries.

2. Installation of signboard

(1) Clearance requirements of signboard

Strictly control the distance between the inner edge of the sign board of single-column sign and the edge of soil shoulder, and the clearance height between the lower edge of the sign board of cantilever and portal sign and the road surface. The installation and fastening method of sign board meets the design and specification requirements.

After the sign board is installed, the sign board shall be cleaned and the sign layout shall not be damaged. After the sign board is installed, check whether its appearance, visibility, color and mirror glare conform to the construction drawing design. The clearance requirements of the sign board include the clearance height from the lower edge of the sign board to the road surface and the distance from the inner edge of the sign board to the road edge, and these distances should be strictly controlled during construction. These distances are specified by specifications and design drawings, and the correct position of the sideline should be determined in advance during measurement.

(2) Installation angle of signboard

The front of the sign board should face the direction of coming vehicles, and the glare to the driver should be minimized. It should be arranged at right angles or a certain angle to the direction of the highway, and the board face is slightly inclined inward. The specific provisions are as follows:

(1) when roadside installation, the normal of the sign board should be parallel to or at a certain angle with the center line of the highway, and the guide sign and warning sign should be 0 ~ 10, and the prohibition sign and indication sign should be 0 ~ 45.

(2) when cantilever, portal or attached support structure is adopted, the installation angle of the sign should be perpendicular to the road centerline and at a depression angle of 0 ~ 10 with the road vertical line.

③ In curved sections, the installation angle of signs should be determined according to the direction of traffic flow. After the signboard is installed, if the installation angle does not meet the requirements, the installation angle of the signboard should be adjusted.
